The ruling against the provision that provides for indefinite detention without trial of Americans merely suspected of abetting terrorists is a victory for civil liberties and the Constitution.  I imagine the neocons will be outraged.

One caveat:  Farage and UKIP is not a libertarian.  They advocate for closed borders,  and increased military and prison spending.  His politics aligns better with the American Tea Party or Paleo-conservatism than the Campaign for Liberty.

Please give us just one congressman with the moxie of Nigel Farage.

I get it.  Play nice.  Be respectful.  Work within the system.

But then again, that assumes that the system is democratic or fair and thus worthy of “decorum”.  We’ve seen how ‘fair’ the GOP is when they ‘lose’ truckloads of ballots and adjourn conventions when the results aren’t to their liking.

So I get the whole “Satyagraha” philosophy thing.  I understand the long, non-violent struggle.  I respect those who advocate for it.  But then again, for every Ghandi, there was a Bose.  For every MLK there was a Malcom X.  For every Jefferson, a Thomas Paine.

It takes many voices.  The peacemakers need the rabble rousers.  Without them, the peacemakers will be ignored.

Jefferson was not a signer of the Constitution.  In fact, he rightly perceived it to be fatally flawed.  He actually wrote an alternative Constitition which was never considered by the convention.  It included provisions that have been eroded or completely ignored in the wake of the Constitution’s ambiguity.  They include:

Defining property rights including barring the theft of Indian Lands

No popularly elected President

No Presidential Veto

Limits on the Death Penalty and Torture

An expanded and clarified right to the Bearing of Arms

Abolition of the Slave Trade

and Term Limits

My congressman, Mike Coffman, just voted for CISPA– which is to say, he supports your cell phone carrier and google turning over whatever personal information on you they choose to the stasi with immunity from any prosecution.
